Brief overview
Shihan Harvey has over 38 years of experience in the martial arts. Over several years Shihan Harvey has taught seminars for soldiers in the United States Army, and Air force, women’s crisis Center, Rape Crisis center any many other martial arts Dojo’s.
His formal training began in 1987 under the late Shihan John Hebert. After achieving his Black Belt in Jujutsu and moving to college he continued his training under his instructor teachers at LSU-A. This allowed him to begin learning and training in various other combat oriented martial arts. After being promoted to his 2nd Dan by Shihan John Wayne Allen, he established the West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy with the desire to continue what his instructor Shihan Hebert instilled in him.
After several years he was accepted into a prestigious group known as The Louisiana Wrecking Crew. This allowed him to continue to grow in the martial arts. This also allowed him to cross train and earn various Dan levels in other martial arts style’s such as Kempo Jutsu, Toide, Goshin Jutsu, Judo, Combat Ki, Iai Jutsu / Ken Jutsu, Kobujutsu and Karate Jutsu and various other closed style martial arts.
In 2005 with the popularity of UFC and Brazilian Jiujitsu he began training in Bjj. Later he was introduced to Erik Paulson the founder of Combat Submission Wrestling. This System consist of Bjj, Greco Roman Wrestling, Sambo, and Catch Wresling. From this he also began to train in Erik’s system of Savate Thai Cross Training. This is a blend of over five various styles of boxing and kick boxing all blended together. In 2014 he earned his Pro Coach level under the CSW Association.
He is also a Master level instructor for law enforcement defensive tactics and impact weaponry.

Years later he began to train in the grappling arts of BJJ with the desire to improve on his overall ground fighting abilities. After being introduced to Sensei Erik Paulson and attending several Seminars he decided to start over as a beginner and began to train under Sensei Paulson in his Combat Submission Wrestling and Savate Thai Cross training eventually earning his Pro Coach level.
Certified Instructor In Many Martial Arts Styles
Branching off from this instruction he has certified in many levels of knife and stick fighting systems in order to constantly improve his overall knowledge as a martial arts instructor.

A specific part of our preschool and kids martial arts classes at West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy in Leesville is teaching respect, and teaching when to use their new self defense training and when to NOT use them. We find that our students become more confident to stand up to bullies. And have more humility and kindness to others though their martial arts lessons.
We encourage parents to watch their children in their kids martial arts lessons. We love parents getting involved! And so do their kids. Even better… join into some of our martial arts classes for adults. You’re kids will love that you have something in common. It will build a strong family bond!

Truthfully, the journey to Black Belt is an individual one. Everyone can progress at a different pace. There is no judgement on students for how long it does take. What we can tell you, is that it is SO WORTHWHILE!
