As soon as you walk in the door, you are treated like family. There are not many places that I have gone in and immediately felt like I was part of the family and that I belonged. Shihan Harvey ensures that all of his students receives the attention and instruction that they need to be very successful in learning martial arts. The system that he teaches is very user friendly and can be applied to most self-defense situations that one may come across. I spent 25 years in the US Army, over 15 of that was spent as a US Army Special Forces Green Beret, and I can say the art that Shihan Harvey teaches is one of the most effective that I have ever learned. He demands and expects high standards out of his students, and nothing is given, but if you put the time in, it will be a very rewarding experience. He is very good with children as well. My son learned the value of discipline and hard work while attending this school. If one is looking to learn martial arts, there are no other schools that I would recommend before West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy.

The West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy is a great school for learning and training in the martial arts. Shihan Harvey is an eighth Dan [with ten being the highest] and has been training since he was 12 years old. He is one of 10 members of the Soke’s inner circle of Shihans [masters]. [The Soke (Head) of Juko-Kai  International is Dr. Rod Shacharnoski].  Some of the members of this group have been featured on “Stan Lee’s Superhumans” on the History Channel.

Shihan Harvey has a large class of young students [both boys and girls].  He is patient and caring about each and their achievements.  He has this same attitude toward his adult students.  If you do a throw incorrectly, he patiently and politely shows you how to do it.  If you are still having trouble, he will show you two or three more ways to do it.

He is not only a master [Shihan] in Jujutsu but is devoted to teaching it to others. He brings in nationally recognized martial artists for local clinics each year. In addition, he takes students to clinics in Texas and Florida. When you watch him train and teach, you know instantly that he loves what he does. His love for Jujutsu is contagious. It is truly a pleasure to train with and learn from him.

This is a great place to learn Martial Arts. The instructor has a passion for teaching this and it shows because he is always on the mat with the students. He cares for his students and is truly a great person. My child has been going there for about 3 years now and enjoys every minute of it.

True prep.

Coming from a military point of view, the techniques, lessons, and instruction I have received personally from the dojo and its instructors have helped me to face the stress and challenges in a combat MOS. Using so of the focus training I am more ready to care for my patients in a combat environment with a clam mind and a steady hand. I feel prepared to defend myself and my patients in hand to hand combat if necessary.

A great place to train and learn the Martial Arts.

I started training here 4 years ago. Shihan Harvey is amazingly dedicated to teaching the art of Juko-Ryu Jujutsu. He is one of those teachers who is not in to teaching the art for money but because he has a passion for it and wants to share that passion with others. 90% of the time he is on the mats teaching. The training is great and the friendships made there are great. If you want a place with a great quality training and in an environment where you feel welcome, this is the best place to be.

I met Shihan Harvey a couple of years back , and watched his training etiquette, and the way he treated his students, and the practicality of the martial art that he teaches, I was instantly sold ! I joined the association and started training with him at his dojo, and have trained with him for many years, very impressed, awesome training, with real world applications! Would recommend him and his dojo to anyone that’s looking for just the right one!

I have trained in multiple arts and I will have to tell you, this art is for real!
